How the flu shot protects you
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), flu season in 2023 affected 20 million people, leading to more than 380,000 hospitalizations and 25,000 deaths.
While it may not completely prevent infection, the flu shot can significantly reduce the severity of your symptoms and lower your risk of serious complications, including hospitalization. It can also lessen the severity of other respiratory infections.
Are you at risk?
Some groups are at a higher risk for flu complications. If you belong to any of these groups, the flu shot is even more important:
- Adults age 65 and older.
- Children under age 5.
- Pregnant women.
- People with chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or asthma.
- Residents of nursing homes.
Your flu shot is free!
If you’re enrolled in a Sprinklr medical plan, your flu shot is 100% covered when you visit a network provider. There are many ways to safely get vaccinated—visit a local pharmacy, urgent care clinic, a mobile flu shot clinic, or your primary care physician.
Wherever you decide to go, make sure to get vaccinated soon! It takes about two weeks for the flu shot to build up antibodies, so getting it now will protect you through the peak flu season.
